Kindergarten
In kindergarten, students learn about themselves and their relationship to the classroom, school, famiily, and community. They are encouraged to express their thoughts and ideas creatively to develop their vocabulary and to pose simple questions. Students engage in many activities to help develop oral language, reading and writing skills. Their ability to communicate through language, pictures, sound, movement and other symbolic means are developed.
Language Arts and Mathematics are the primary areas of focus in Kindergarten. The Arts, Health Education, Physical Education, Science, Social Studies, Library, and Technology are integrated into learning experiences to assist in the development of a strong learning foundation upon which future knowledge may be built.

Goals and Objectives
Utah has adopted the Common Core State Standards, which outlines standards of learning that are essential for all students at each elementary grade level. The curriculum includes ideas, concepts and skills to provide a foundation on which subsequent learning may be built. The curriculum for each grade level can be accessed on the Utah Common Core State Standards website at: http://www.corestandards.org/the-standards

Instructional Practices
We will utilize whole group, small group and individual instruction and technology to teach the kindergarten core curriculum as outlined by the Utah State Office of Education.
- Consistent punctual attendance is essential to your child's learning.
Homework will be sent home at the beginning of each week and is due back on Friday. Please work with your child on a daily basis to help them complete their homework and establish a homework routine.
It is vitally important that you help your child practice the letter/word cards daily. They will be tested each Monday. Once they pass the assigned letters, they will receive the next set. Our goal is to have every child in the class master all of the letter names and sounds by December.
Students will be given a warning for behavior that interfereswith learning. Should the behavior continue, the student will be removed from the activity. If a student engages in behavior that endangers themselves or others, or is overtly defiant, s/he will be sent to the office and their parents will be notified.
Clear standards and expectations are established for all students at each grade level. To be on grade level, students are expected to be able to demonstrate knowledge for the information that has been taught with minimal assistance from the teacher.
Parents will be receive information regarding their children's progress during SEP conferences (Parent Teacher conferences) and through end of term report cards.
